High-Level Structure Families (Education Only)
- Bundled hybrid PPA: one offtaker buys firm power from one plant; renewable share and thermal firming sit behind one meter and one availability regime.
- Layered offtake: renewable energy contract plus a separate capacity/firming agreement for thermal and/or BESS — useful when regulators or offtakers split products.
- Behind-the-meter / wheeling hybrid: industrial or mining load takes hybrid power on site or via private wire; curtailment and islanding rules dominate (see mining hybrid solar + thermal).
- Campus / hyperscale offtake: data-centre or industrial campus stages renewable share with firming blocks — map to data centre solutions and hyperscale firming roadmap.
None of these families carry published tariff numbers here. Indicative commercial terms belong under NDA and project qualification.
Clauses Buyers Should Insist Exist (High Level)
- Product definition: energy vs capacity vs ancillary — what is being sold each hour.
- Curtailment cause codes: grid-forced vs plant-forced vs offtaker-directed — ties to curtailment management with thermal firming.
- Availability and outage classes: planned maintenance windows for thermal, BESS, and PV without double-counting penalties.
- Fuel and start cost pass-through or inclusion: decide explicitly; do not leave thermal starts as goodwill.
- Metering and EMS evidence: one plant controller, auditable logs, change control.
- Interface to EPC warranties: commercial offtake must not promise performance the EPC never warranted.
O&M and PPA Interaction
Availability KPIs in the PPA must map to measurable O&M KPIs on the plant. If the PPA counts “hybrid availability” without defining which layer failed, disputes follow. See O&M KPIs for hybrid fleets and USP&E operations and maintenance. Contact +27 10 822 2324 · Contact USP&E.
Common questions
Do you publish sample hybrid tariffs?
No. Tariffs and LCOE are project-specific under NDA. This page is structural education only.
Can one PPA cover PV, BESS, and thermal?
Yes, as a bundled hybrid offtake — if products, curtailment codes, and availability are defined. Layered contracts are an alternative when regulators require split products.
Documentation Pack That Matches the Physical Hybrid
When owners use an owner’s engineer, the OE should compare PPA exhibits to EPC IFC drawings before financial close amendments freeze the wrong plant — see owner’s engineer for hybrid EPC. Inventory-backed firming options for near-term COD remain at SEARCH INVENTORY.
Compliance culture matters in frontier offtake: USP&E is FCPA and OFAC compliant and will not structure supply or services into sanctioned destinations. Company name in all schedules: USP&E only.
Why owners choose USP&E
USP&E is a full-service engineering, EPC and O&M company, not a broker. One team designs, builds and runs your plant, so nothing falls between contracts.
Facing a power challenge on site?
Tell us your load, fuel and timeline. A USP&E engineer will come back with options for Renewable EPC projects, not a sales pitch.
