If the guarantees are vague or cannot be tested, the risk falls on you after handover: a plant that meets every test on paper but fails your load at night, fuel use far above plan, arguments over weather corrections and remedies nobody can enforce. That means lost revenue, penalties under your power contract, delay to final acceptance and a plant that never earns what your model promised.
USP&E Helps You Write Guarantees You Can Test and Enforce
We know you want a plant that performs the way the financial model says. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers engineer, build, test and operate solar, battery and gas turbine plant. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
You do not need a guarantee for every number on a datasheet. You need a small set of guarantees that match what you sell, a test method everyone agreed before construction, and remedies that are fair and clear.
Choose What the Guarantees Must Cover
Start from what your plant sells or protects. A mine or industrial user usually cares most about firm output and availability, because a dip stops the process. An independent producer selling energy cares about annual energy and capacity under the power contract. Read how IPP contracts allocate performance risk before you settle the list, because your guarantees should mirror the obligations you carry to the offtaker.
A typical hybrid set covers solar energy or performance ratio, battery capacity and round-trip efficiency, gas turbine output and fuel use at stated conditions, and plant availability over a defined period. Add a firm-output guarantee for the whole plant if your load must be met around the clock, and define it as what the plant delivers at the meter, not what each unit can do alone.
Keep the list short. Every extra guarantee needs its own test, its own corrections and its own remedy, and overlapping guarantees can lead to paying twice for the same shortfall or arguing over which one applies.
Agree the Tests and Corrections Before You Build
Each guarantee needs a test method written into the contract: what is measured, with which meters, for how long, under what conditions, and how the results are calculated. Solar tests need irradiance and module temperature data from calibrated sensors. Gas turbine tests need fuel flow, fuel quality and ambient conditions recorded alongside output.
Corrections matter as much as the test. Solar output depends on the weather, and turbine output and fuel use change with temperature, elevation and fuel composition. Agree the correction curves and the reference conditions up front, so a hot week or a change in gas quality does not turn the test into a dispute.
Plan the order of tests too. Prove each system first, then run the integrated plant test through the controller, including turbine starts when solar drops and battery charge and discharge cycles. Our hybrid solar, battery and turbine plant work builds these tests around how your plant will actually run.
Set Fair Remedies and Keep the Evidence After Handover
Agree what happens when a guarantee is missed: a period to fix and retest, then liquidated damages based on the real loss, with a cap. Remedies that are too weak give the contractor no reason to fix the plant. Remedies that are too heavy push up the contract price or end in court. Link availability remedies to the same definitions your offtaker uses.
Many guarantees run beyond handover, especially availability and battery capacity. Keep the same meters, data logging and calculation method in place during operation, and agree who reviews the data and how often. USP&E’s operations and maintenance teams can carry the monitoring forward so the evidence is ready when a guarantee period closes.
The approach works whether your firming comes from a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, other used/new gas turbines or natural gas engines/stations. Data centre buyers weighing AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute under hyperscale EPC/O&M face the same guarantee questions, as will buyers of the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA. FAQ: Renewable EPC Hybrid Performance Guarantees with GT
What performance guarantees does a hybrid plant need?
USP&E usually guarantees solar energy or performance ratio, battery capacity and efficiency, gas turbine output and fuel use at stated conditions, and plant availability. A plant-level firm-output guarantee is added when the load must be met around the clock, measured at the meter rather than unit by unit.
Why do weather and fuel corrections matter?
USP&E agrees correction curves up front because solar output depends on irradiance and temperature, while turbine output and fuel use change with ambient conditions and gas quality. Without agreed corrections, a hot week or a fuel change can turn a fair test into a long dispute.
How are hybrid plant guarantees tested?
USP&E tests each system first with calibrated meters and sensors, then runs an integrated plant test through the controller. That includes turbine starts when solar drops and battery cycles. The method, duration, data and calculations are all written into the contract before construction starts.
What happens if a guarantee is missed?
USP&E contracts usually give a period to fix and retest, then liquidated damages linked to the real loss, with a cap. Remedies should be strong enough to make fixes worthwhile but not so heavy that they inflate the contract price or push both parties into litigation.
Where are USP&E’s offices for renewable EPC projects?
USP&E leads renewable and hybrid EPC work from Colorado Springs and Knoxville in the US. London supports contract wording and finance, Johannesburg and Cape Town add engineering and field depth across Africa, and Wuxi follows up modules, batteries and equipment made in China.
Has USP&E delivered EPC projects to agreed commitments before?
USP&E delivered a 13.1 MW HFO and diesel modular power station for Perenco in Guatemala under full EPC in under five months, on time and on budget. USP&E has also refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
Is USP&E a broker for renewable EPC?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E engineers, builds, tests and operates hybrid plant with its own people, so the team that helps set your guarantees is the same team that runs the tests, fixes any shortfall and keeps measuring performance after handover.
How fast can USP&E review my hybrid plant guarantees?
USP&E can start as soon as you share your power contract, load profile and draft EPC terms. Engineers flag guarantees that cannot be tested, missing corrections and remedies that do not match your offtake first, so the gaps are closed before you sign the contract.
Guarantee What Your Plant Must Deliver
Clear, testable guarantees protect your revenue and give your lenders confidence. Vague ones leave you paying for a plant that only works on paper. USP&E will help you set, test and keep your guarantees with confidence.
