About USP&E
Renewable EPC is where USP&E explains hybrid plants: solar and storage for energy, thermal for firmness, one contract for all of it.
About USP&E
Powering Possibility. Built for the Frontier.
Renewable EPC is the hybrid page of USP&E, a power company that engineers, constructs and runs power plants. We combine solar PV, batteries and thermal generation so that a plant delivers firm power, not only daytime energy.
Our hybrid teams work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, drawing on 400+ engineers and project managers and offices in the USA, Africa, the UK and China.
About USP&E
USP&E is a power generation company that has delivered plants in 35+ countries and guided owners in 85+. It sources equipment, designs plants, builds them as EPC or EPCM contractor and operates them. The company is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, and its design philosophy for hybrids is simple: put each technology where it is strongest and own the interfaces between them.
Why hybrid, and why EPC
Solar is cheap energy, but it cannot hold a frequency alone. The grid or the mine needs inertia, reactive power and ramp control. Thermal units supply those, and batteries smooth the gap. Getting the mix right is a design question, then an EPC question, then an operating question.
Renewable EPC publishes the engineering that sits between: hybrid controllers, grid-forming strategies, short-circuit ratio, ramp rates and firming agreements.
What each part does
| Part | Role | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Solar PV | Low-cost energy | Cloud ramps |
| Battery | Smoothing and reserve | Duration and cycling |
| Gas engines or turbines | Firm capacity | Fuel supply |
| Controller | One operating logic | Commissioning time |
Our hybrid offer
- Design: load studies and plant concept.
- EPC: one contract across PV, storage and thermal.
- O&M: a single operating team for the whole plant.
- Firming: FX-45 or reciprocating units as the backbone.
Capability
Interfaces are where projects fail
A hybrid plant contains several suppliers’ controls. Where those meet, trouble starts: inverters that trip on a frequency dip, a battery that wakes up late, a generator that ramps slower than the plan. Our articles on grid forming, inertia emulation, reactive power and short-circuit ratio explain the problems and show how to design around them.
We also publish plain guides to firming agreements and O&M key performance indicators for hybrid fleets.
Operations after construction
A hybrid plant earns money only when it runs well. USP&E operates hybrid fleets with one team that understands thermal and solar assets. We report on availability, solar yield, battery health and fuel use together, which gives owners a full picture rather than separate contractor reports.
Hybrid O&M indicators
- Availability: by technology and plant.
- Yield: solar output against expectation.
- Fuel: thermal burn per megawatt-hour.
- Battery: cycles and health.
